Music Monday: Sleigh Bells

Hey Monday, you know what? With a little coffee and Crown on the Ground, I’m gonna make you mine.

Done and done.

Hopeless Wanderer

If you haven’t seen the hilarity that is the new Mumford & Sons video for their song Hopeless Wanderer, please watch below. Jason Bateman, Ed Helms, Jason Sudeikis, and Will Forte star in what is possibly the most beautiful, ironic and hilarious music video any hipster or festival fairy has ever seen. Ever. I don’t think I could love M&S more than I do now…

I couldn’t help but think…what if they had recruited Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler to play (Tina Fey would direct, obvi)? Here’s what I could see them wearing, in an un-ironic, totally boho and lovely way. Because if anyone’s proved that funny ladies can dress really really well and still be hilarious (aside from my girl Barbra…duh) it’s them.

folk-boho-look-mumford-sons-inspiredCheck out TYSA for all the gorgeous printed pieces. The shoes are Soiyl, Isabel Marant and Fiel. Jewels by Jennifer Fisher and Chan Luu. Bags by HeadRegal and Free People.

Music Monday: The Temptations

the-temptationsMonday pick-me-up? I’m on it. This jam ALWAYS calls for a solid 2 and a half minute dance break. I honestly think a good dance break increases productivity. But I ain’t gonna beg you to join me…

charlie-cavachon-puppyBut Charlie might.

So we have two things to discuss today…

1. H&M launched it’s e-commerce site. FINALLY. Throwing logic to the wind, as per usual, I celebrated by visiting the closest H&M store.

2. H&M has also launched a “HOME” section of their site, filled with bedding, decor and home goods galore!

So what I’ve chosen to bring to you are my favorite picks from H&M’s relaunched website along with the musical stylings of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Enjoy:

hm-home-clothes-bohoThis ensemble reads laid back and cozy with a dash of bohemian. I embrace neutrals. Being neutral can be a great thing. Look at Switzerland. And we love their cheese and chocolate. Add a bold print occasionally and you’ve got yourself a pretty cool dwelling place.

hm-home-clothes-chicIf “chic” is what comes out of your mouth every fifth word…this may be the look for you! It’s trendy, sure, but only in a sophisticated way. Again, neutral tones prevail, but these are bolder and sleeker. A little skull candle holder action can keep a coffee table from getting dull. Trust.

While catching up on a few of last week’s episodes of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, I got super hyped to see the Yeah Yeah Yeah perform a track off their latest album, Mosquito. Some video footage, courtesy of NBC, is attached to bottom of this post, check it out to hear and see the Yeah Yeah Yeah perform Dispair.

You’ll notice as you watch, that lead singer Karen O pays a stylish homage to Michael Jackson in her metallic gold (lamé?) suit opened just enough to showoff her MJ tshirt. Since I have a great appreciation for the King of Pop and we all know how I feel about concert tees, I give this look two thumbs up.

Karen O and the gang always wow, but this time it was the understated raw elements of the performance and wardrobe choices, that let the message ring loud and clear. Great clothes. Great song. See for yourself.

Upon hearing the title of Kanye West’s latest album, Yeezus, I flinched a little. Then, of course, I saw the track I Am a God and my petite reaction became a full-fledged frowny face. Due to an upbringing saturated with both religious instruction and exploration, both titles naturally made me feel some discomfort. But then I realized that a lot of things Kanye West has done and/or said has evoked the same involuntarily reaction. I moved on and pushed play.

Ye’s recent interview with W (which would probably one of the hottest links this week, even if no one bothered with SEO) was a solid PR move. It’s still the same Kanye, but somehow it humanized him more. At least I think so. I like him more, even if I disagree with his self-imposed divine status and categorization under rock ‘n’ roll. Notwithstanding all the above, I look forward to his upcoming men’s capsule collection.

So now, aside from his music, I appreciate his eagerness to learn. To soak up expert information at any cost. That’s integral to learning, to growing. I also admire…. wait for it… his humility. Shocker. I don’t think it outweighs his ego, but I think his actions, more than his words, have shown he understand where he stands. Lastly, I really love what he said about appearing on Keeping Up with the Kardashians with/for girlfriend Kim (sidenote: how is it Tuesday and I’ve already referenced this show twice? Let that marinate…):

“Oh, that’s just all for love. It’s simply that. At a certain point, or always, love is more important than any branding, or any set of cool people, or attempting to impress anyone. Because true love is just the way you feel.”

A beautiful sentiment to end on.

Music Monday: The Bling Ring Soundtrack

the bling ring soundtrack

Thanks to my current location in Suburbia, The Bling Ring was finally made available in a theater near me on Friday. I had full intentions of going Saturday night, but that was before I felt the pains of Friday night’s aftermath.

As a consolation prize for my pity party, I’ve been listening to The Bling Ring’s soundtrack. On repeat. God bless Spotify. I’m listening to it right this second. Join the party, push play. and make your Monday 10x better.

And here’s the trailer if you’ve been out of the country or something and you’re too cultured (for now, just wait) to understand the magnitude of Emma Watson watching the Kardashians on E! to prep for her role in this film.
